Cardinals sign Jhonny Peralta

The St Louis Cardinals have signed Jhonny Peralta to a 4-year deal worth slightly more than 52 million dollars. The Cardinals had an obvious weakness at shortstop with their starter Pete Kozma having a slash line of .217/.275/.273. The Cardinals needed an upgrade and Jhonny Peralta is perfect for the job.

Peralta had one of the best seasons of his career last season but it was damaged with the fact he used PEDs to aid his performance. He hit .303/.358/.457 last year with 11 homers and 55 RBIs. He only played in 107 games but was suspended for 50 games.

Peraltas defense was pretty good as he made only 4 errors in 106 games at shortstop. His RF/9 was slightly above league average. He had a 0.7 defensive WAR last season.

Overall this could be a good move for the Cardinals. It depends on how he adjusts to the National League and if he can stay away from steroids/injuries.
