Scouting Report: Jose Dariel Abreu

Jose Dariel Abreu, 26, has been reported to have signed with a team, presumably the White Sox, for 6 years 68 million dollars. An overpay for someone who hasn't played American baseball. The 6' 4" 250 pound 1B is known for his power and that is what made him a much sought after player. Abreu tied for the home run lead with 3 in the World Baseball Classic including a grand slam. He has had some monster seasons in the Cuban Serie Nacional including a .394/.543/..835 with 18 doubles and 37 homers in the 2011-12 season.

Abreus main tool is expected to be his power and with his frame he sounds like an Adam Dunn type player but the average in the Serie Nacional may say otherwise. What will help is his age as he is entering the prime of his career and may be an immediate impact player in the major leagues.
